JIE LIAN, Esq.

Mr. Jie Lian is a dispute resolution and risk management lawyer licensed in both the U.S. and PRC with more than 13 years of combined experience resolving high-profile litigation and regulatory matters in both countries. He has successfully represented large business entities operating in China in strategically important litigation, arbitration, investigation, and compliance matters in various industries, including the pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer goods, electronic device, petroleum, aviation, insurance, finance, employment, and commercial service industries.

Mr. Lian also serves as arbitrators and mediators in various major PRC arbitration and mediation institutions. Being an experienced U.S. litigator and serving as arbitrators in PRC, Mr. Lian is particularly knowledgeable in handling cross-border disputes where parties from different jurisdictions are involved.

Based on Mr. Lian’s accomplishment, he is also invited by top law schools, such as Peking University Law School to teach courses including contract, evidence, and mock jury trial as an adjunct instructor.

The combination of his common law experiences and PRC capacities has uniquely positioned him to effectively assess, prevent, and mitigate unconventional legal risks faced by entities with cross-border operations. Mr. Lian has successfully conducted dispute cases involving complex legal issues in areas including commercial fraud, intellectual property, trade secrets, international trade, contract, cybersecurity, products liabilities, and insurance. He is particularly experienced in handling cross-border disputes where unique jurisdiction, discovery, conflicting local law, and case management concerns are involved. Besides litigation and arbitration, he has also maintained a record of resolving hotly contested matters through negotiation.

Applying his in-depth knowledge of the risk factors acquired in dispute and regulatory matters, Mr. Lian has also successfully detected and mitigated legal risks in transactional matters on behalf of major industry players involving a range of legal areas, including FCPA, unfair competition, intellectual property, employment, contract, and cybersecurity issues.
